Making feed changes

Posted March 8, 2006 at 1:39 pm

Thanks for your patience. I’ve gone ahead and updated my feed scripts so that they append a short blurb at the end with a link to my blog and to the Creative Commons license I write Act Boldly under.

I decided this was necessary after coming across what looks like a splog (a spam blog) called My Quick Weight Loss that is republishing my RSS feed, unattributed, along with that of other bloggers. (I don’t want to even help their Google score with a link, so search if you’re so inclined.)

I’m not sure if the goal is to drive traffic to the Google ads that appear or if it’s something else, but this unattributed copying of Act Boldly content is not legal (as described by the license).

I didn’t want to penalize anyone reading this from an aggregator (all 10 of you :) by switching from full content to excerpts, so I’ve taken the step of putting in my own attribution. Hopefully it won’t annoy you folks!

Thanks…and now back to your regularly scheduled topics :).

I’m experimenting with my RSS feeds, so please ignore…back to regular posting soon! Duh, let’s try putting the code in the right place.

Okay, one more test. One more…duh, not matching your HTML tags is bad, bad, bad!

Now, checking the atom feed.

Oh rats…my version of WordPress has an atom feed that won’t validate. Oh well, let me try the RSS 2.0 feed, which does.
