I've just found you and will be going back to look through your archives—but I know already that I'm going to enjoy your writing. I, too, have dealt with (and have had treatment for) compulsive eating, and have lost about eighty pounds from my highest weight of 330 by stabilizing my eating patterns and cutting as much processed food as possible out of my diet. In the polarities of fat positivity (towards which I strive) vs. weight loss blogging, it's wonderful to find someone with whom I have so much in common. You're on my sidebar already, and I look forward to continuing to read (and congratulations on 100 pounds lost!).

I had been hoping to do something on the less invasive size, so I hadn't considered myomectomy.

My first ob/gyn tried a balloon ablation on me in July that failed (cavity too large courtesy of the fibroids apparently). I have been told I'm a good candidate for UAE (the plastic pellet technique). But the MRI for that procedure turned up a fairly healthy sized ovarian cyst. So my current ob/gyn has had me try the Lupron so I could get thru the holidays, and see where I am.

My ultrasound is scheduled for the 13th, so if the cyst isn't an issue, she's willing to explore some kind of cauterization (the fibroid that's causing the bleeding is on the endometrial wall). Or maybe I can get by with one of those progesterone IUDs or even Depo Provera. But if she needs to do something with the cyst, then hysterectomy is looking more likely.

I'm not particularly wedded to my uterus (no longer childbearing age), but I'd like to avoid a serious surgery/recovery. We'll see!

Have you discussed the possibility of having a myomectomy with your doctor? I had one about seven years ago, and although the fibroids have come back, they are not big, and are not growing crazy like they did before (I believe because I do not have the kind of stress I had in my life that I did then).

There's also the technique, and I'm blanking on what it's called, but I'll be there is information about it on WebMD, where they inject little plastic pellets into the arteries feeding the fibroids, causing the fibroids to shrivel up and die.

I hope you have a great vacation. Your remark out being "a meal or two away from slip-sliding" hit home. I realize that I will be a meal or two away from slipping for the rest of my life. Not a good situation, but good to be aware of.
