What she said

Posted January 25, 2006 at 8:59 am

From Weighty Words, emphasis mine:

I know it isn’t the first time I’ve said it nor am I the only blogger to say it, but if doing the right things feels so good, why don’t we?

Good question!!

I think it’s because things can feel bad and good. The process might be painful, but the goal is so good it makes it worth it. For instance, I don’t really like cleaning, but I like living in a clean, organized room. So while picking up stuff and organizing it is tedious, seeing it all orderly feels good enough to suffer the process. I feel the same way about walking. At least half the time I don’t really want to go for a walk, but I know I will feel better after exercising so I do it anyway.

Sometimes I think the secret of life is learning how to make yourself do things you don’t want to do.
