I saw a mention on Good Morning America about Tyra Banks donning a fat suit, and then found this entry from Big Fat Blog, who linked to this entry from People magazine. In it, they explain that Tyra goes “undercover” in a 350-lb fat suit. Her experience?

[It was] one of the most heartbreaking days of my life. … I started walking down the street and within 10 seconds, a trio of people looked at me, snickered, looked me right in my eye and started pointing and laughing in my face. … I had no idea it was that blatant.”

Some of the commenters on Big Fat Blog had some of the same reactions I did. I’ve been 350+ for a long, long time, and I’ve never experienced this kind of “shocking reaction.” Okay, well maybe I did, but it was from a four year old!

Anyways, I think the whole issue of fat discrimination is very serious, and very complicated. I’m going to tune in to her show tonight and see how she handles this.
